So I am sure that by now most of you have heard the controversy concerning the Brazilian Blow out, and no doubt some of you are concerned because you or someone you know has gotten on in the recent months. I have done a great deal of research about what is going on and have uncovered a lot of helpful info from the inside. Hopefully this will alleviate some of your concerns and give you some info to pass along.
According to the information I have gathered, the cause for concern is the toxins that come from the vapor that is released from the hair during the blowdry and flat iron steps of the treatment. The main concern is for the people performing the treatment, as we inhale it directly and are exposed to larger amounts of it over a prolonged period of time. The toxin in question comes from formaldehyde...and the argument is A). How much is safe and B). How much is present in the Brazilian Blowout Solution. ...especially since the results from testing done on the solution seem to be inconsistent, but do confirm the presence of an unsafe amount of formaldehyde, despite the fact that Brazilian Blowout (the Company) maintain that their formula is Formaldehyde free.

Brazilian Blow out is a brand name company who has the most popular smoothing system on the markeet. It is not the treatment itself that is being deemed unsafe...but specifically the solution tthat is produced by Brazilian Blowout.
So, here is the deal... Brazilian Blowout originally purchased its product (solution) from a company in Brazil called Cadiveu. Cadiveu took a very popular smoothing system concept and created a formula that was safe and toxin free, but produced superior results. They sold this solution, to many different companies, operating under many different names, including Brazilian Blowout. Once the popularity of this treatment gained major headway, Brazilan Blowout decided to stop purchasing its product from Cadiveu and began producing the solution on its own. Apparently this is where the problems began as they did not manage to replicate the formula exactly and the new solution has more formaldehyde in it than the original. This is why the test result are inconsistent, and why it was able to pass the safety standards test given by health Canada but is now under question.
I am sure that eventually all of this will blow over, but I for one am not willing to risk the health and well being of my staff and clients, so we have recently switched over to Cadiveu as it is the founder of the product and prides itself in quality control. The solution has also passed the tests administered by health Canada. I look forward to continuing to offer my clients the benifits of this unique and ground breaking treatment.
